FAQ

What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling is great for muscle tension and improving overall body function.  The process starts with inserting a solid, very thin and flexible needle into a trigger point within the muscles for relief of pain, tightness and spasm. It is referred to as “Dry” because there is no injection of fluid into the tissue. When the needle is inserted into the tissue there should be relatively little sensation or pain. A recreation of symptoms is normal. This means we are getting to the root of your issue. A twitch response is also normal, but not necessary for effectiveness. Typically a twitch means the trigger point has been present for a while, but our goal is to catch these trigger points before they get to this stage. Once the needles are all in, they will sit for 8-12 minutes depending on the severity of the condition. We have seen amazing results with this technique and would love to answer any more questions in detail.

Do you accept insurance at your Cary office?

Yes. Elemental Chiropractic is proud to be in-network with most major insurance providers. This includes Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBS NC), the NC State Health Plan, Cigna, Aetna, Medcost, and Medicare. We recommend contacting our office or your insurance provider directly prior to your first visit to verify your specific coverage and benefits.

What should I expect during my first visit?

Your initial appointment is focused on finding the root cause of your pain. Dr. Runyan will conduct a comprehensive consultation, x-rays, a detailed physical examination, and a functional movement assessment. If chiropractic care is right for you, we typically provide your first individualized adjustment or therapy during this same visit so you can start finding relief immediately.

How long do appointments take?

Your first new patient evaluation and treatment will take approximately 45 to 60 minutes to ensure a thorough assessment. Routine follow-up appointments for adjustments and combined therapies are streamlined to fit your busy schedule, typically lasting between 15 and 30 minutes.

Does dry needling hurt?

Most patients feel very little discomfort during the insertion of the ultra-thin needle. You may experience a brief, dull ache or a localized "twitch response" when the needle interacts with a tight muscle knot. This is a completely normal sign that the muscle is releasing its tension. Many patients report feeling immediate relief and improved range of motion shortly after treatment.

How is your clinic different from traditional chiropractors?

At Elemental Chiropractic, we don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" or "crack-and-go" approach. We combine gentle, precise spinal adjustments with advanced soft-tissue therapies like Dry Needling and Cupping. By addressing both the nervous system and the surrounding muscular system simultaneously, your adjustments hold longer, and your body heals faster.
